Healing in Our Relationships

When you think of personal relationships, what comes to mind? Do you think about families and people you know? What about your relationship with yourself and your living space?

Many of us collect things, and we struggle with letting them go. Our possessions carry memories. When we try to heal our past but keep items reminding us of the pain, it is more difficult to move forward.

When my clients feel better about themselves or their lives, they find energy, time and motivation to declutter their homes. They begin to sense that certain items have been weighing them down and those items need to go.

Our healing affects interpersonal dynamics too. When we change, it might bring tension to our relationships. That gives us a chance to address what is no longer true for us, and it can result in relationships falling away or rekindling.

Not making changes for fear of leaving others behind is a common challenge to many, especially when we value loyalty. When we procrastinate in making changes that matter to our hearts and souls, we are abandoning ourselves.

There are situations when leaving toxic dynamics is needed, and there are times when we need to resolve conflicts. When we transcend limitations set by old dynamics, we are affecting beneficial changes to those in our circle.

A client had the same argument with her brother periodically. We had thought we knew the cause of the issue, but the healing process revealed that the discord stemmed from her being raped by a cousin over sixty years ago.

My client has done a lot of healing on her past. It wasn’t until our session that she realized she was still angry with the cousin. In the weeks that followed, she was able to fully resolve the past and forgive him.

By releasing the bind, she has more space to accept her brother and amend their relationship. The healing also opened her up to feel more connected. I was amazed when we both sensed that her cousin’s spirit was freed because of her commitment to resolve the old burden.

Our unfinished business does not serve anyone. When we address the root cause, the veil is lifted. Healing at such a profound level benefits generations before and after because it shifts consciousness in the collective.

Challenges in our health often stem from unresolved burdens or unhealed relationships with the past too.

A woman couldn’t train for a marathon because of hip pain. She also had a car accident triggering back pain from another accident years ago. When I cleared her body’s memory and relationship to old injuries, her pain dissipated and she started running again.

Issues we face are impetuses to develop a wholesome relationship with ourselves. We learn to manage our thoughts and reactions, process our experiences constructively, and how to feel more connected instead of isolated.

The more we cultivate a tender relationship with ourselves, the more often things fall into place. It is like the Universe orchestrating a series of events and people showing us how far we have come in honoring ourselves.

This way of living is so different from years ago when I had thought it was up to me to make things happen. That satisfied my ego, but that way of living consumed my vitality, and it wasn’t rewarding.

I have learned to clean up my side of the street, and accept people and situations not from a sense of powerlessness or avoidance, but rather with patience, understanding and compassion. As a result, I am more available to affect changes bringing joy and fulfillment for me and others.

Regardless of our age, the more we shed our baggages, the greater hope and optimism we will feel about the future. This greatly affects how graceful or arduous the healing journey is. It also affects the quality of all our relationships.
