Releasing Old Agreements

Recently I had a few cases where my clients had forgotten or were unconscious of agreements that hindered them from moving forward. In other cases, the conflicts between their desires and agreements were not obvious.

A client had been trying to have a baby without success. Through our time together, she realized she had agreed to follow her family’s footsteps. A few weeks after we released the agreements energetically, she became pregnant.

Our thoughts and words are powerful. A declaration we made to ourselves, however benign it might seem, can have long-lasting consequences.

As a jolly little girl, I was walking around the house one day singing a song from a root beer commercial. I had no inhibition, and my singing interrupted my Dad’s afternoon nap. He got up and sternly told me to stop singing that song.

As a young child with limited understanding about the context of his “command,” I felt ashamed and told myself it was not good to sing or express myself. Over the years, I had become quieter and more reserved.

I knew I wasn’t as articulate as I would like, but I didn’t know my voice was energetically blocked. Since I had been in choirs, led teams and had spoken in conferences and other venues, I figured my vocal skill was passable.

In 2010, the unconscious suppression of my voice became so strong that a red rash developed around my throat and neck. I was tested negative for allergies and I tried different ways to resolve the issue without success.

Around that time, I was also upset about incidents involving professional ethics. After months of stress with irritation on my neck and throat, I finally decided to speak up. To my surprise, the skin rash resolved completely soon after that.

As I dived deeper into my healing, I learned that in previous lifetimes, I had taken vows to not teach healing arts. It has been eye-opening observing how I reclaim my voice and creativity as I dissolve these old agreements.

It does not matter whether you believe in past lives or not. My point is: many conscious or unconscious agreements we make with ourselves and others have insidious effects on our well-being and how we experience life.

Here are a few agreements that are worth revisiting as our values, goals or desires change through different stages of life:

  • how far do we push the limit of tolerating misbehaviors?
  • who is the decision-maker in what aspect of the relationship?
  • when does caring turn into overcaring or smothering?
  • what topics do we avoid to preserve superficial harmony?
  • when does our loyalty begin to compromise our integrity?
  • what limits do we set for our health, finance, career goals, dreams et cetera so that we don’t rock the boat “too much”?

It is tempting to go on autopilot without examining these agreements. If we want to grow, live more consciously or free ourselves from old confines, releasing outdated agreements is often necessary.

Agreements that are not aligned with our truth and desires have ways to make themselves known. If we keep ignoring the “signs,” we will run into obstacles in such frequency or intensity that causes us to pause and reassess our ways.

One can change a relationship by written contract or verbal communication. It is also crucial to update agreements energetically. If the energetic cords are not dissolved, the old energy can cast a shadow over our future.

I have clients who notice the progress they’ve made with energy clearing far exceeds months and years of talk therapy. Different methods offer different kinds of results; be sure you pick a path that offers a complete resolution.

You are precious and you do not need to settle for less!
