The Journey of True Wealth

Continuing with my story from last time, I want to share with you the unexpected gains from choosing my calling over financial security.

A few months after I left the job in 2020, Spirit guided me to sell my house. My reaction was “No! I just left the job, and I needed my home for stability.” I also had huge resistance around making more changes in the midst of COVID.

4 days later, the news reported that California home prices were all-time high. I resigned and took it as another call to sell my home. I couldn’t figure out how a seller’s market would help me as a buyer of another home.

When I found a house that I loved, the realtor suggested me to place a high bid. My intuition said “No,” so I took a chance to adhere to the guidance. I was so glad that the seller accepted my offer, showing me to trust my intuition more.

Because of the contingent offer on the new house, we had 4 days to sell my home. We expected multiple offers because of the hot market and the house was in a prime neighborhood. We ended up with only one offer!

I burst into tears when I read the offer. The buyers ensured that their bid would stand out because they got turned down many times. Aside from the enticing financial incentives, it was clear that they would take great care of the house.

The exchange of houses was a huge a gift to me. Who would have thought a lovely home with less maintenance in a more beautiful neighborhood 10 minutes away from my former home would lead to a handsome financial gain!

My accountant looked at me solemnly, declaring that I wouldn’t need to pay any capital gain tax. I could have researched and strategized for months, and still wouldn’t have been able to come up with such a favorable outcome.

Spirit knows I can’t do my best work if I have to worry whether I have enough money to pay the bills. Before I left the job, I panicked because the funds I had counted on for my transition was unavailable. The capital gain took care of that.

Alexander Graham Bell’s quote came to mind: “When one door closes, another opens.”

There were many other moving parts around the sale, purchase and the move that caused my head to spin. I couldn’t think straight, and my body felt weak and exhausted.

The whole experience helped me realize how much was out of my control. I learned to surrender to Spirit’s guidance again and again.

The invisible force was guiding me every step of the way, dissolving obstacles and pointing me to the right people at the perfect time. Strangers would offer unexpected assistance when I asked Spirit how something could be done.

Many people talked about delays in delivery or poor customer services due to COVID. Items I ordered arrived early, if not on time. When a mover I wanted was not responsive, I ended up with a great mover for a better deal.

Workings of the Spirit defy logic, historical patterns and conventional thinking; how miracles unfold is beyond intellectual understanding and cannot be verified with “fact checks” on the internet.

Surrendering to Spirit is different from giving up. Surrendering sounds like: I don’t know. I don’t see how it will work out, but I am willing to stay engaged in the process even if it feels very uncomfortable. Out of humility, I step aside while paying attention to the clues from Spirit for my next step.

Giving up sounds like: I don’t like this. There is nothing I can do about it because of the prognosis, market, economy, my genes, my spouse, my boss, and so on. It’s too difficult; they can’t help me, so why bother?

Some people give up because they don’t want to be disappointed, especially when they have tried many things and failed. They don’t know the consciousness behind the actions has a bigger impact on the trajectory and outcome than the actions.

Money, True Wealth and Self-Love

Many people think money isn’t spiritual. I have met seekers who moved towards an austere lifestyle because they saw that as the key to their spiritual awakening.

I have helped clients who held judgement against the wealthy, felt guilty for wanting more when they wanted to improve their finances. The internal conflict drained their energy, preventing them from tapping into the fountain of wealth.

What I have learned is: money is not the issue, it’s the stories we make around money that prevent us from channeling money in a life-affirming way. It is our limiting beliefs that put us out of the flow of abundance.

When people make money the reason for doing something or not, it is more about the value or benefits they perceive they will get out of the experience or investment.

If someone has a belief that it will take a long time to heal, they can’t conceive a few sessions with me will resolve their challenges. They don’t think it’s possible for them, so they will forgo the opportunity. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If we do not deeply love ourselves, we are incapable of receiving true wealth.  True wealth offers abundance in ways that bring us peace, joy, fulfillment and freedom that the mind cannot conceive. We must love ourselves enough to allow that to occur.

Years ago, I took a pro bono case to help a woman who claimed she wanted to improve her life. But she wouldn’t show up fully. When I ended our agreement, she was furious, accusing me of withholding my gifts to someone in need.

I didn’t know she was reflecting parts of me that needed healing. I used to criticize myself and others a lot. When I was turned down for promotions, I had blamed the unfairness of the system. I didn’t realize the promotions would not be best for me and others if I engaged in self-loathing all the time.

On my journey, I have identified four areas that help me build true wealth:

  • how much I appreciate and respect Life, others and me
  • how much I am willing to forgive myself and others
  • how compassionate I am with the parts of me that I feel awkward about or ashamed of, and
  • how frequently I allow Spirit or the Divine to express through me.

The more I grow in these areas, the more enriching relationships, synchronistic support, money, and other forms of true wealth comes to me. Even my employer created a new position to promote me into. It was unheard of!

Self-love is connected to self-worth. If we feel worthy, we can express our needs in ways that will be met, instead of trying to be “nice,” pleasing others, or focusing on giving to others.

Many of us are great at giving or offering help, but we aren’t so great at receiving. We might like the feeling of being in control when we give to others. Making requests or asking for help can feel vulnerable. It is not a sign of weakness because it takes courage.

To be wealthy, practice receiving. Do you feel awkward when someone gives you a gift or compliment? If you can’t be gracious with small gestures of kindness, how can you be ready for bigger gifts from the Universe?

Our readiness for true wealth is also reflected in how we handle the situation when someone keeps breaking their agreements with us, when they do not respect us or our time, take credit for our work, or do not compensate us fairly.

Do we love ourselves enough to take a stand for ourselves, or do we withhold, gossip, or shrivel, pretending that nothing was bothering us? Or do we become hostile or defensive, preventing us from turning the situation around for a more fruitful outcome?

The level of maturity we show in handling any red flags reflects how much we are ready to be wealthy. If we notice others are not honoring us, it’s time to explore where we may be shortchanging ourselves and how we can turn the situation around. The outer world reflects the inner world.

Knowing the source of our struggles does not mean we have the capacities or the right skills to make the necessary changes. A shift in consciousness is the key to beautiful transformations that ripple through all areas of your life.
